Smoking

Butt Out to Save Your Back

Some new studies suggest that there could be a correlation between smoking and developing chronic back pain like sciatica. The research study focused on 6,000 women from Kentucky in the United States, and surveyed them to see if there was a link between a variety of lifestyle factors and chronic conditions.
The research yielded some incredible results showing that daily smokers were 104% more likely to develop chronic pain like sciatica than non-smokers. Additionally, the results indicated that daily smokers were more likely to develop a variety of chronic pains compared to other common lifestyle factors such as aging, lack of education, and obesity.

Although, the researchers did point out that some of the test subjects had become smokers as a result of dealing with chronic pain. This may mean that further research is needed of course, but in the meantime it is clear that there are much better ways to deal with chronic pain such as sciatica through a variety of treatments such as chiropractic treatments, massage therapy, etc.
