A breakthrough for child with special needs

Oro-Medonte & Severn News September 1998 - 21

The first four years of life for Amanda Powell of Hawkestone were very much a struggle.  Her motor skills were 18 months behind according to tests done at OSMH in March 1998.  This was very worrisome for her parents Tracy and Ken, since similar tests done in January 1998 indicated there was a 10 month delay at that time.  It seemed that as she was getting older, and expectations increased, she was getting further behind.  She was not able to dress herself since she could not do up laces or zippers, even doing up buttons was very difficult for her.  Her speech was about one year behind, and her muscle tone was so poor at times she had difficulty breathing

Her parents were currently involved in numerous different treatments for Amanda, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy and hipotherapy, speech therapy, naturopathic treatments, and chiropractic which were helping, but the real breakthrough was at the end of March 1998.

Dr. Allen Turner has gained and international reputation for treating learning disabilities, dyslexia and attention deficit disorders.

Dr. Turner has worked with thousands of patients and has pioneered several innovative drug free methods that improved the capabilities of children with learning disabilities.  Dr. Turner’s methods have been featured on numerous television programs including the CTV National News, Canada AM and Heartbeat News.  He had also appeared on Dini Petty and City Line shows.

By April when Amanda was able to ride a bike with training wheels by herself without falling off (two weeks prior she had trouble going  3 ft. on a tricycle) and was able to stand up on kids' rollerskates. Her speech had improved so dramatically that everyone was able to understand her much easier.  In July during her speech assessment she scored 98 out of 100 in language and the speech therapist was quite impressed with the changes in her.  Her score was exactly where someone at her age should be.

Amanda's parents credit her remarkable turnaround to the treatments she received at Dr. Turner’s office. Dr. Allen Turner has taken many post graduate courses in neurology, cranial therapy, and nutrition, and has applied this knowledge to treating different types of disabilities ranging from dyslexia and developmental delays to seizures and autism. The results have been so successful that patients have come from all over Canada, United States and abroad to have treatments.

When asked about the changes in Amanda, her mother stated the changes are phenomenal. The changes with Amanda were seen almost overnight and she continues to improve all the time. Everyone that knows her well is always commenting on the improvement they see in her. It’s like a ‘light’ was turned on, the signal is there now. She also commented that Dr. Turner does workshops frequently on Learning Disabilities and that going to listen to him speak when Amanda first started treatment really helped understand why this type of treatment in conjunction with other therapies would work.
