ARTICLE READ IN NORTH SIMCOE Community News BRINGS BREAK- THROUGH FOR GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT DELAYED CHILD

by Murray J. Martin

Over one year ago an article published in this newspaper, made a dramatic improvement in the quality of life of yet another child. The article was about my granddaughter that had experienced a remarkable improvement in her special needs, since receiving specialized treatment from a chiropractor in Stouffville. The Doctor has many post graduate courses in neurology, cranial therapy and nutrition. Taylor Demepsey's parents decided to try this treatment for their daughter and here is their story.

The first 6 years of life were very much a struggle for Taylor. Taylor was born with a chromosomal abnormality, which resulted in a Global Development Delay. Low muscle tone lead to severe delays in language development as it was difficult to form words and make sounds. She was only able to put three to four word sentences together. Failure of muscles to develop normally had also lead to major difficulties in her balance and motor skills. Taylor did not walk until after she was two years old and was still having many problems going up and down stairs.

Taylor had received ongoing support from both Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital from 1993 to 1998. Her discharge reports showed that Taylor's progress was very slow. Taylor's age equivalent scores were on an average of the two-year level. Her parents then sought help at the hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the Bloor MacMillian Centre and to Pediatric Neurologist in Toronto. Taylor's parents were becoming increasingly discouraged, as Taylor seemed to be getting further behind.

In September of 1998 a story appeared in this newspaper about another girl with somewhat similar problems. The story was with regards to Dr. Allen Turner of Stouffville. The article stated that Doctor Turner had gained an international reputation for treating learning disabilities, dyslexia and attention deficits disorders. The story also mentioned that Doctor Turner had pioneered several innovative drug free methods that improved the capabilities of children with learning disabilities. On September 22nd 1998, Taylor received her first treatment by Doctor Turner. By October 1998, Taylor's parents noticed dramatic changes in her. She was not only walking much better but was able to go up and down stairs much faster. She was far more aware of her surroundings and had a much faster reaction time. It was also noted that Taylor had a change in her language development. Her speech was clearer and Iouder and she was capable of putting more words together in her sentences. Over the past year Taylor has continued to make significant progress in all areas. Needless to say, her parents are thrilled about her progress and are optimistic about further progress.
