Are you sleeping on the right mattress?

What are you really sleeping on? Is it a heavenly cloud of comfort and serenity? Or is it a hell-bound slab of discomfort made from rusty nails and razor blades? What kind of mattress do you use at night? This is an important question, because you may be waking up stiff and sore and wondering why!
If your mattress if between 7 to 10 years old, if it’s full of lumps and bumps, if it’s way too soft or hard, or if you sleep better when you’re out as compared to when you’re home, this can only mean one thing – you need a new mattress! You need to find one that is durable, comfortable and supportive, because your quality of sleep affects your health and wellness overall. Chiropractors know this and you should too.

Look for mattresses from reputable, good quality brands. You can even do some research before you start actually shopping. Find a good price or a bargain. Find a medium firm mattress too. It’s actually quite good for back pain. Don’t get one that’s too soft, as it may result in numbness, tingling and pain because it makes it so difficult for you to move. A mattress that’s too firm will not provide even support to your body and will make you feel uncomfortable at your heaviest point (shoulders and hips). When you choose a mattress that is medium firm, your weight and pressure is more evenly distributed and your pain can be decreased when you lie down or when you get up.

That’s why when you go out to buy your mattress, you should spend at least 5 minutes lying on each mattress you’re interested in to make sure it’s the optimal comfort for you.
