With the cold winter months fast approaching and much of Canada being hit with cold fronts and even snow – yes, as early as last week – it is time to start finding ways of staying in shape while indoors. It is important to stay motivated about working out, and what better way than to incorporate fun workout methods into your everyday routine so that you can keep burning fat and losing weight instead of hibernating this winter.
The weight-loss market is definitely saturated with low-fat, low-carb and even sugar-free foods; however, there is no magic pill to keeping the weight off, and you will need a mixture of eating healthy and exercise in order to shed those unwanted pounds and keep fit this winter.

Working out and losing weight this holiday season doesn't have to be boring and can actually be quite fun.

Here are 5 fun ways to get in shape this winter:

  • Walk as a couple. The landscape in Canada's winter is quite beautiful and offers some good quality time as a couple to go for a walk and check out the scenery while at the same time burning some calories during a long winter walk with some hot chocolate. Just be sure to bundle up! So making fitness part of your travels can have great benefits for your body and your relationship.

  • Check out indoor rock climbing facilities. There are usually a few in every city and these indoor activity centres offer the perfect opportunity to get active while remaining indoors to avoid the cold weather. Of course in the summer months you may want to go hiking or head to the mountains for some real climbing but in the winter a rock climbing gym can be perfect for getting in shape.

  • Take out your dancing shoes. Dancing is a great way to have fun while burning a ton of calories. Not to mention that you'll be honing a great skill that your spouse will surely want to participate in and there are many couple discounts at local dance studios.

  • Strip the weight away. There are many new DVDs on the marketplace now that can spice up your regular workout routine with some fun new ways of exercising in the comfort of your own home.
